Beetles lay eggs in small cracks and on the surface of wood, especially in the slightly moist wood found in NW washington crawlspaces. These eggs hatch and small beetle larvae end of living in the wood for upto 5 years before emerging, leaving behind a lot of unseen damage as well as a distinctive emergence hole. once they emerge they mate and the cycle starts all over again.
