Musca domestica (House Fly)

It’s not hard to find houseflies.  At home, on a farm, and especially at the dump, really anywhere you can find rotting plant or animal matter, you will likely find houseflies.

Most common during spring through fall, houseflies lay their eggs in manure, rotting plant or animal tissue, or garbage where they hatch into maggots. Adults flies usually live between 15 and 25 days and transmit hundreds of different pathogens that are known to cause disease in humans and animals by transferring these pathogens from places of filth to exposed food.
